My identity going forward
Today’s post is difficult for me to write. 3 reasons:
🟢 1. Yes, today I’m changing my LinkedIn status to “Open to Work”.
But this is not a typical job transition post.
NEAR Foundation and I are parting ways (on good terms).
And yes, NEAR Protocol (ticker: NEAR) is still the most impressive cryptocurrency / blockchain that I’ve encountered.
I’m currently interviewing for Engineering Manager positions.

🚫 But that’s not the hard part.
🟢 2. Mainly, having 2 identities in one LinkedIn post is challenging.
I’ve committed to teach others how to sell their expertise online.
(It’s a powerful, magical feeling that I want others to experience.)
I want to show that it’s possible for ANYONE to profit $200k/yr in 20 hr/wk without any upfront investment or risk (just patience and commitment).
In the years that it will take me to build up this business on the side in only 20 hr/wk, I will continue as an engineering manager leading a team within [some lucky employer TBD 😉] to produce their best work in an environment of radical candor (stretching and supporting them simultaneously).
In the short run, there will be potential employers who will be confused by my LinkedIn profile and scratch me off their list.
(Spectators might say I’m shooting myself in the foot.)
Transparency and honesty are important to me, though.
Doing what feels right is often uncomfortable, but the awkwardness doesn’t stop me.
Unexpectedly, in the 24 days since I started posting daily, hiring managers have already started recruiting me BECAUSE of these posts.
They’ve said that they can tell what kind of leader I am because I’ve shared my thought processes.
How refreshing!
Regardless of what happens, I will continue.
🟢 3. My daily posts so far (including this one) have been messy instead of systematic.
(This is not the plan.)
If a person read a random sample of 5 posts without seeing my tagline, they wouldn’t be able to identify my target audience and how I’m offering to help.
A lot of my focus recently has been on interviews and spending time with family who is in town for the holidays.
I haven’t gotten into a publishing groove yet.
Reflecting on my excuses above, I realized that my "regularly scheduled programming" should include messy posts that expose my thoughts and emotions.
I should give myself permission to share a “meta” / reflection post once per week.
So I got out of bed at 4 AM on Christmas Eve and started writing this post.
I’ll create a schedule of 13 other types of weekly posts covering all of the important topics.
They will inspire, teach, and entertain.
Someone following along closely enough won’t help but create an enjoyable, profitable online business.

So here we are.
I’ve changed my tagline from:
“Solopreneur Out Loud: Daily posts about digital solopreneurship, positive psychology, and productivity. 100% transparency of the journey. ryancwalsh.com”
To:
“Helping beginners profit $200k/yr in just 20hr/wk selling their expertise online (full-time income, side hustle hours). 100% transparency into my steps. Follow the "Solopreneur Out Loud" journey. ryancwalsh.com”
And I changed my name to “Ryan Walsh 🟢🌱” because I want to become known as the person who encourages people to get started planting seeds with a long-term vision for how they can design their life.
