Great to see your past surfer self. Nice to read that you are feeling positive about life. I have managed to avoid Covid so far. I talk within my family about the state of the world and feel that we are on the brink of either world war and collapse of the economy and society or deescallation and social improvement. It is hard to say which way it will go.
Yeah, the world certainly feels unstable. I'm trying to focus on what's within my influence, which is not much. :-)
What kinds of social improvement do you think might be around the corner?
I've definitely seen trends towards more human and animal rights over the centuries, and I assume they'll continue, but I'm always curious to hear about more specific ideas.
Social improvements is a bit of wishful thinking rather than a probability. Humans are just animals and will always be trying to grow and defend territory and gain power. Maybe a few more women in politics acting in a female nurturing manner will bring about diplomacy and compromise and a fairer distribution of riches.
I'll be texting you soon for some pickleball. The travel schedule has been insane.
I loved seeing the surfing analogy. I've only done it a few times, but I remember it being so exhausting to paddle out there. But, you're right, isn't that life? Don't we dictate our energy expense? Don't we dictate which opportunities to leverage?
Capitalism surely has its value and its expense.
Seeing your resilience is inspiring, and a lighthouse amidst the hullaballoo across the Internet with the upcoming election. Can't wait to finally meet in person! xD
Costa Rica! That may have been the first place I surfed. Santa Teresa. https://maps.app.goo.gl/7GELvfYMReta8eSs7 Here I am with the instructor: https://imgur.com/a/Ej459xY Unfortunately his style of teaching was the same as Paul Rudd in Forgetting Sarah Marshall (maybe even verbatim) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKIpCPS-oZc And that wasn't enough time to really learn. It was helpful to live walkable to the beach in San Diego. I still never got great but that was much better.

I would love that!
This is a great post, Ryan.

Cool, where have you been surfing?
Thanks for all the feedback 😃
Looking forward to pickleball!
Only in Costa Rica once during a surf camp. Would love to do it again, actively looking for a surf camp to dig into the skill some more.
