I've come to realize that my bias towards wanting to build cool tools is not the most helpful bias to have.
Engineering matters way less than:
1) knowing how to identify an Ideal Customer Profile and understand what their pain points and challenges are and the emotions that they feel and what influences their decisions.
2) finding or developing a distribution channel to that niche audience
Those steps are 90% of business.
I.e. "Don't spend so much on engineering / fulfillment when you haven't done the more important steps."
Also, I need to detach emotionally from outcomes and think like a scientist who is ready to pivot based on evidence.
I've posted about MakerMatch to ~15 places within Reddit, Indie Hackers, etc.
I'm asking myself "Should I see obvious momentum from that? Or should I post to 100 places to give it a fair shot?"
Those are tough questions and tough chores. Not as fun as engineering but more important.
The βwhen to give upβ question is a difficult one. Canβt split test it. Have to know your ICP lives there before thinking thereβs no βpullβ, etc. Totally get it.
Whatβs the MVP build, but of marketing? Building isnβt enough. Need to do a minimal job of marketing for a test to actually work these days.
Yeah that's the question on my mind.
